        For Leesop Cho, sexual identity and orientation are not merely facets of the self, but central pillars upon which his life and artistic practice stand. Born from wounds and sharpened through relentless introspection, they shape how he moves through and perceives the world. Erotic love, in his view, is not confined to the realm of human feeling—it is a force that surpasses the human, unfolding in the blurred space between the human and the non-human, where sexuality unravels into intricate, unstable layers. Within this terrain, Cho collects fragments—personal, cultural, erotic—and reconfigures them into quiet provocations that challenge normative definitions of the body and identity. In his work, the body becomes both site and symbol: a carrier of deviance, desire, and multiplicity. It is through this approach that Cho’s practice begins to reveal its dual nature. Art, for him, is both a methodical unmaking of heteronormative structures and a deeply personal act of preservation—a way to document what he once called “A life too stubborn to end, too strong to break.”

        In recent works, Cho has turned to images sourced from online gay pornography. Through subversive appropriation and formal experimentation, he explores the uneasy entanglements of ornamentation, voyeurism, and moral tension.

        나에게 성ㅡ정체성과 지향은 단순히 자기 형성의 일부가 아닌 나를 떠받치는 가장 근본적인 기둥이다. 나는 상처 받았고, 그것 때문에 더 아파하며 컸다. 세계를 뒤집어 놓는 성애적 사랑, 그것이 존재에게 작용하는 영향은 인간보다 위에 있다. 그 힘은 경계를 넘나드는 모호한 지대에서 작동하며, 그곳에서 섹슈얼리티는 끊임없이 복잡하고 불안정한 움직임을 갖는다. 이는 내가 ‘정상(正常)’에 대한 의문을 바탕으로 신체를 작품 소재로 앞세워 그 서사를 퀴어적으로 배치하려는 이유이기도 하다. 이러한 접근은 그 자체로 이중적인 성격을 띤다. 고로 나의 예술은 하나의 전략이다.

        결과적으로 미술은, 나에게 사회의 이성애적 담론을 해체하는 시도인 동시에 “파괴되지 못하는 끈덕진 삶(일기에서 발췌)”에 대한 개인의 기록으로도 기능하는 것이다.
